(28,120 posts)I share your pain, Demsrule86.
We had to have our 5yo precious yellow Lab put down just 9wks ago yesterday and I'm still crying every day. She was the sweetest baby girl; even our neighbors complimented how sweet she was to their dogs.
We got her as a rescue puppy. And just about 5 mos ago i told her foster mom, DUer MimiMe: "See that moon up there? Missy put it there."
We had no idea our baby was suffering with a severe congenital heart valve problem then. It only manifested severe debilitating symptoms a week before we had to stop her suffering.
Missy was our definition of love; she was by our sides constantly, & giving us her paw & kisses when we were troubled because she sensed our every pain & grief.
I know that's how you feel about your sweet Benjy. Some dogs just give us so much love & joy that life is not the same without them.
But the sharp pain you're feeling will eventually subside a bit. I think it helps share & know others totally understand. Don't be ashamed or embarrassed - love is love is love, no matter its source. And we know, some dogs are much more humane than many (most?) people.
Btw, I'm an atheist but it's comforting to me to think our Missy is now a spirit. I hope your sweet Benjy and our Missy gets to meet over the 🌈 Bridge.
