A win for justice! [View all]

Ten minutes ago, Yutico Briley was released from prison in Louisiana. Two years ago, Yutico contacted Emily Bazelon at the New York Times to help him with his case.

As a black teenager, he was sentenced to 62 years for an armed robbery ($102) that he did not commit. He was a victim of prosecutorial malfeasance and corrupt inadequate counsel.

Emily Bazelon writes on the criminal justice system and is also a host of the Slate.com weekly podcast . Two of her sisters work for an innocence project at the University of San Francisco. They took his case. Today, after serving seven years, Yutico was fully exonerated. His sentence was vacated. He is a free man.
