2. A friend of mine who struggled with depression for years

confided to me the reason he considered using a gun to end his life on a weekend. He assumed - likely correctly - that the report from the firearm would result in law enforcement finding his body instead of a family member. Even in his (then) hopeless state he was thinking about others. Fortunately, with a lot of patience, support and hard work he's doing better.

Can't help but wonder if this isn't part of the calculation made by others who take their lives with firearms.
