One time I saw a guy wearing what looked like a cut off sock on his arm. Either way unless you've got full sleeves, small tattoos and tramp stamps are generally lame.

Onsen and less common now neighborhood baths (Sentos) are one of the best parts of Japan and something I really enjoy.
