Elizabeth I, inherited a bankrupt country. There was not much money to pay for anything, least of all a war. For years she held fast against all the men around her who kept on pushing her to go to war with various countries. She is famously quoted as saying many times, "No war, my lords, no war!"

She finally went to war against Spain in 1588. And won. But she didn't drain her country of precious resources in war for a great many years leading up to that date, unlike her predecessors.

Our country is in the process of being bankrupt largely because of the wars our leaders insist on fighting. I hope that Bernie Sanders not only gets elected, but holds out against wars for his entire time in office.
