A friend of mine was co-piloting the plane carrying Norm Coleman to the Duluth debate that day. Her plane was within ten air miles of Wellstone's plane.

A few weeks after the crash she made this bone-chilling comment to me: "It's like that plane was swatted out of the sky. There was absolutely no reason for it to crash. None." Her opinion was that there were only two possible explanations, as the weather was nothing special - just drizzly, with no snow, ice or unusual winds: the pilot flew the plane straight into the ground or it was deliberately knocked out of the sky. And she's neither very political nor given to conspiracy theories. She was badly freaked out by that crash and had no plausible explanation for it.

It has always stunk of Cheney to me.
