The only way to avert the Trump presidency is to nominate Bernie. The only way. That's how it is now.
If Bernie supporters were the kind of people who vote how they're told, they would be Clinton supporters. Clearly, that is not true. Clearly, IF anybody bothers to notice this primary at all.
The big come-together isn't going to happen. People can ignore that if they want, but that won't make it less true.
