(20,226 posts)But ultimately in a general election - most Americans want the President to go to Church and believe in Jesus Christ - but they really don't want someone who comes off as a religious nut. Attacking prenatal care on religious grounds , openly saying most Protestants have left the Christian faith and that the President doesn't believe in the Bible is certainly popular in the circles that comprise a significant portion of today's Republican Party primary voters. But it is simply too extreme on religiosity even for an essentially religious believing public.
(Sorry, I just woke up and kind missed the irony. I was just thinking - last year at this time I was still working in Saudi Arabia and there the government was very aggressively pushing prenatal screening. But Rick Santorum is telling the general public that prenatal screening is a secular, liberal socialist plot. Rick Santorum's anti-secularism is too extreme for Saudi Arabia)
