So voters can coalesce around other candidates with similar policies.

It makes no sense in a two-person contest for anyone to drop out until they are mathematically eliminated.

And mathematical elimination doesn't occur until one of the two wins half of the pledged delegates.

And right now that may not happen before the convention.
