In reply to the discussion: Why must Hillary supporters feign outrage over Bernie [View all]The Velveteen Ocelot
(115,681 posts)It comes from knowing that Bernie's goal is getting people to understand that the political game is rigged against the 99% and that his message is catching on. Hillary has been pandering to the 1% ever since she carpetbagged her way into the Senate but until now she's been able to disguise her participation in the soft corruption of national politics (on both sides of the aisle) as normal speaking gigs and fundraising appearances. Everybody does it, right? Maybe they do, but Bernie's point is that they shouldn't - not Democrats or Republicans - because it turns democracy into a hollow sham that works only for the wealthy.
Those who support the safe, business-as-usual center either don't believe this or don't care. If you don't believe it you'd better look again; if you don't care, you might as well vote GOP. At least they don't pretend they aren't corporate tools because they believe that's what politicians ought to be. Establishment Dems just pretend they aren't corporate tools in order to get the votes of the 99% who have been getting hosed by the vampire squids of Wall Street and think government ought to work for the people, but those politicians don't want their gravy train to be derailed.
The outrage arises from Bernie pulling back the curtain.
