I was raised by parents who starved as children in the depression, they drove into my head to save save save. I lived on savings until 62. I also was the manager of a y2k project as a consultant paid hourly, gave up one year of my life to save money, worked 6 days a week for at least 12 hours a day. When you do that you can't actually find time to spend money. My one regret with that was missing the last healthy year of my Mom.

Funny thing though, one guy I had worked with for a few years as an H1B visa person, got his green card. He was laid off and replaced. He was one of the most skilled people that they would really miss, he was the exception though, most H1B people were just normal people who worked for less money.
