2016 Postmortem
In reply to the discussion: I've been told Trump has clips from Hillarys speeches to wall st [View all]CincyDem
(6,338 posts)44. I'm sure there's a Yuuuge can of whoop-ass waiting for him.
The issue, however, is if that whoop-ass will be consistent with his "brand". Suppose we find out that he took some zoning officials from Chicago to the Bahama's to get zoning variances for his new building on the river.
His response - "yeah. BFD, that's how ya gotta do bidness in Chicago"...and he blames the system for forcing him to bribe those guys. From an image point of view, it just reinforces the idea that we have to change the system. And besides, unless he's actually convicted...it's not going to stick with his voters. I don't think he was exaggerating when he said he could shoot someone on Fifth Avenue and it wouldn't hurt his image. It's sort of like "dog bites man" news.
On the other hand, if we find out that HRC used 49 cent stamps on a postcard in 1996...we're going to have a f'ing congressional investigation into her "wastefulness".
It's bullchit but when you think about "unleashing" anything on Trump consider this - whatever we discover about Trump that most "normal" people would find appalling - his supporters will look at it like finding out there were naked pictures in Playboy...what the heck did you expect, it's part of the brand.
I have confidence there are enough "normal" people in America. I just hope to god they get out and vote.
