For the last 4 elections, I have had my ballot mailed to me. I fill it out and tear off a tab at the top of the ballot that I keep. I put the ballot into the envelope that was mailed to me and turn it in at the polling place near my house on election day. I can call about a week later to make sure my ballot was counted.

I think a lot of people do what I do. It's convenient for me, but it does mean that my vote isn't counted the day of the election.
