2016 Postmortem
In reply to the discussion: Is it really a good idea to get rid of closed primaries? [View all]Agnosticsherbet
(11,619 posts)61. Clinton won more open Primaries than Sanders, 13 out of 23.
The repeated refrain that Sanders did better in open Primaries is inaccurate.
I prefer a partially open primary where independents or decline to state can join the party on election and vote in the Democratic primary.
If we are serious about expanding our voter base, we need to abolish caucuses.

I do not buy the premise that closed primaries are necessary to keep Republicans from voting in them

What I believe to be truly Democratic is for voters to simply be "registered to vote".

I'm okay with getting rid of superdelegates. That would have determined our nominee weeks ago.

Open early is ok. Closed after the halfway point, to prevent Rs from tampering if they've picked.
