Lloyd Dogget (D) will be 70 in October, so he may be ready to retire in the next few years. Two of the others are Repubs. One is older (Lamar Smith) and has been in Congress for 30 years, so he might be ripe for replacement too.

Senator John Cornyn is only 64 but he may be ready to take a lucrative lobbyist position before retiring altogether. He's up for reelection in 2020.

Then there's Lt Governor (certified loony toon and state embarrasment) Dan Patrick who is 66 and up for reelection in 2018.

I just think a state senator seat would be a big step backward for Julian. But it's really kind of part time in hours and pay, so if he could do something in addition that would be good for his political career it might be okay.
