His tardiness has only fomented discord and continued the battle longer than necessary. Momma always told me that you can't expect a cut or a scrape to heal if you keep picking-off the scab, and in my opinion, that's what's been happening here. Not only will we have delayed "healing" but because of all the picking, there will be an ugly scar that was completely unnecessary.
