(14,853 posts)I had a friend who was "hippy-like" in his laid back attitude, at least personality-wise. His wife was the same way. Their cat would periodically claw their legs out of the blue. I visited them and the cat certainly wasn't very "sociable," to say the least. They seemed to care for it well, but maybe there was indeed some kind of health problem they didn't know about (beyond mental). I think they said it was a stray kitten they took in many years before.
He also told me the cat would crap outside of the litter box, despite the litter box being clean. He at least didn't act all that upset about it (since the litter box was on linoleum anyway).
I guess it was a good thing that they owned that cat because I don't think I could tolerate that behavior very long. I'd try to give it away to someone more tolerant.
I know there's some genetic aspects to animal personality, so I sometimes wonder if some animals (and people) are born with some bad dispositions.
