In reply to the discussion: Let me know how this "harass Black people into voting for Sanders" campaign is working for y'all [View all]NorthCarolina
(11,197 posts)wherein we are actually at a crossroad where we can either choose to try and reclaim representative Democracy the benefit of ALL CITIZENS, or we can continue on our corporatist path and cement the oligarchy in power. The importance of Bernie Sanders in this race is being viewed by many as America's last real chance, self included, and there is a desperation for real meaningful change. Sanders supporters know they cannot do it alone, and have only asked to look at Sanders record on matters of race because he is the better candidate, bar none. They receive a response from the black community to shut up because it doesn't matter what he did 40 years ago. I believe that his long record is certain measure of the man himself, and that it actually does matter. Does it also NOT matter that Hillary Clinton was a Goldwater girl, considering Goldwater campaigned on re-segregating the south? Of course it matters to the genuine. So in some ways, claims like 'it doesn't matter what he did before' can be construed as an attempt to discredit a facet of Bernie that Hillary simply cannot compete with, and would rather turn into "it doesn't matter". The reality though is, it does matter, and if it doesn't, it should.
