(80,708 posts)Pot Legalization (and certainly, medical marijuana) is by no means and in no way, shape, or form, just "hippie-dippy" shit, anymore. In fact, a majority of voters support it, not just in unpopulated jerkwater nowhere states like California, (with its meager 34 million residents) but also in states like Ohio- either of which may very well be the next to legalize.
Oh, I also hear tell that Ohio is a sort of important swing state. As is Colorado. Maybe a Candidate standing up for legalization could motivate Ohio voters to come to the polls who otherwise might stay home or are undecided...
So it's possible, is it not, that getting out in front of this thing - clearly, unequivocally- could actually be GOOD politics, for Hillary Clinton?
That said, I do think the OP misrepresented what happened. However, she did seem to be in a bit of a hurry to shut the conversation down, lest she be forced to take a more concrete stand or give a clear quote. If she's not following Debbie Wasserman-Schultz's playbook on medical marijuana- namely, arrest as many pot smoking cancer patients as possible- well, I suppose that's something.
But again, the thinking seems to be that this is somehow an issue to be avoided, is old-school thinking and doesn't recognize the fact that Millennials, in particular, are supportive of legalization just as they're supportive of marriage equality.
