(9,688 posts)and their failure to understand their own values!
He criticized REPUBLICANS. Not Liberty University students and faculty.
He described his own sense of ethics in terms that students at Liberty University use daily and understand - just as he said he would do at the start. He was not up there self-righteously trying to "teach them about their own values". Of all the condescending claptrap! On the contrary, he began his speech by acknowledging that there are some issues where there is and will be continuing disagreement - abortion, same-sex marriage in particular - but that there are large areas where he believes there is or should be considerable agreement on particular very important issues, important to THEM. Then he went down the list - not in a condescending way at all! Not to "teach them their own values", but to explain how he SHARED THEIR VALUES, in the way that he described, through biblical references and so on.
Now I've said enough. I obviously listened to a totally different speech and Q&A session than you and zeemike. In my opinion I listened to a much better and more embracing speech.
