(15,229 posts)extraordinary underpinning of socialist ideology by Judaeo-Christianity. He is too wise to fall into the trap of most atheists and agnostics to pillory the church for its significant drift from the Gospel values preached by Christ, seemingly, either consciously or unconsciously aware that personal prayer and sacrifice are the necessary fuel for the fulfilment of the best-laid plans of men: the proper invocation of God's blessing.
It is why Pope Francis, while understanding the need for structural change in the economic ideology of the West, and the necessary political involvement of Catholics in government, disparages ideologies as the cure-alls the World touts them to be. Without prayer and sacrifice invoking God's continuous blessing, we can achieve nothing of value that will last. (Ozymandias has spoken...)
The author of the article, however, like Pope Francis, believes, as should we all, surely, that it is past the time to return to those values, at least to make a purposeful start in that direction. Knowing the role of grace, as he evidently does, his strictures on the subject are surely not out of place. It's neither man's fault that some DU readers of an agnostic or atheist persuasion take a harsher, less nuanced interpretation of Bernie's speech and the words of the author, wielding them with political intent against the church.
