and can't envsion any change or scenario, even a public confession of guilt, that could re-establish the trust.

People who distort the truth as comfortably as they breathe don't become trustworthy.
Just doesn't happen, or very rarely happens.

Takes a middle of the night visitation from the Ghosts of Liars Past Present & Future to awaken the conscience of a habitual liar. Takes being broken down, back to the beginning, takes humiliation of the ego, and/or life-changing scares. Bill had his law license revoked I believe for lying under oath. What sort of standards matter? I dunnno. Not gonna throw my hope, or my vote, away. This is one compromise not worth making.
