In reply to the discussion: Warren offers public apology over claim to tribal heritage, receives standing ovation [View all]Mr.Bill
(24,104 posts)60. My wife, who is mainly Irish is a serious studier of geneology
and has been for about 20 years. She can trace her ancestry and document it back to the Mayflower. She thought, through what was supposed to be an illegitimate birth in her family a few generations ago that she had Native American blood. She could document it through family letters, etc.
A DNA test showed she was wrong. No matter how much research one does, ancestry studies can be erroneous. Census records can be incorrect. So can family bible and church records. I can document through several sources, that my father was 87 when he died. He was 67. Before DNA, a lot of people were wrong about their ancestry. Donald Trump has stated in public that his father was born in Bavaria. He was not.
If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for: Joe Biden

There were NO BENEFITS to claiming it on that Texas bar form. And the forms she signed earlier

I think the issue was always her putting American Indian on 1986 State Bar of Texas write-in form...

I've seen no claims made by her that she was told she was 100% American Indian.

When she was young, the term octaroon was still in use, in some parts of the country.

I don't believe she argued for tribal heritage, but rather, claimed only that according to family

I can relate to Elizebeth Warren. Growing up I was told I was part Cherokee ...

Unlike you, Warren's DNA test proved she did indeed have Native American ancestry.

To publicly claim Native American ancestry when all you have as proof is family legend

Her DNA test did NOT come back with a "big zero" like yours. It proved she was right.
