Your explanation would be more plausible IF for the last year Sanders and his followers hadn't been harangued with accusations they wouldn't support the Democratic nominee. Indeed Clinton herself made such an accusation, though sideways.

This kind of double standard makes some think it was never about Unity, It was about attacking Sanders.

In 2016 sanders did 39 events on Clinton's behalf
In 2008 Clinton did 12 on Obama's behalf.
