Ask Auntie Pinko
June 26, 2003
Welcome to this special 100th edition of Ask Auntie Pinko!
Yes, believe it or not this is the 100th Auntie Pinko column since she began handing out advice on April 5, 2001.
We'd like to say a big thank you to Auntie for all her hard work over the last two years, and to celebrate we asked her to take a look back and pick out her ten favorite columns from the past two years.
She did, and here they are.

Dear Auntie Pinko,
Why do liberals want to give unfair privileges to people based on their race
or color? I thought you all believed in equal opportunity! What about the opportunity
for a white person who is denied a place in a college program or a good job,
just because they have a 'quota' of minorities to meet? Is that fair?
Sincerely,
A fair-minded Conservative,

Dear Auntie Pinko,
When my conservative friends bring up the subject of welfare, and compare it
to stealing money out of their pockets to give to someone else, how does a liberal
counter this argument?

Dear Auntie Pinko,
Why is there so little opposition to the erosion of the Fourth Amendment resulting
from the "Drug War"? Is anyone particularly concerned about the proliferation
of SWAT commando tactics against the citizenry?

Dear Auntie Pinko,
What is tort reform and why should I be worried about it? Why shouldn't I support
something that keeps sleazy lawyers from making big money on dummies who spill
hot coffee on themselves?

Dear Auntie Pinko,
Why is there assumed to be a "Prime Rate"? Isn't money a product of the peoples'
labor and a symbolic way to ensure the division of labor? Why do the money counters
get a cut?
Seriously,
Fred,

Dear Auntie Pinko,
Please explain to me how the "Right" has taken Christians from the "Left". Wasn't
Jesus the guy that helped the poor and the downtrodden? Wasn't he the guy who
said - be as nice to people as you want to treated by them? And wasn't he the
guy who was really down on greedy rich folks? Is this smoke and mirrors or what?
These Christian folks need to be in our camp.

This week, join Auntie Pinko for her first round table question-and-answer session.
A must read.

Dear Auntie Pinko,
I can't understand what's going on with the Democrats in Congress who are blindly
trotting along behind the War on Iraq bandwagon. I'm old enough to remember
the last time we let a President tell us there were vital American interests
at stake and we should just trust him to know best. Don't they remember? Why
are they being such spineless wimps?

Dear Auntie Pinko,
While I would agree that government is a powerful servant in addition to being
a troublesome servant, I also believe that government is, at its base, an institution
of violence. Though this might sound a bit out there, I do think that all social
programs are funded based on the threat of imprisonment for nonpayment of taxes,
which is to be enforced by violence. This led me to abandon my old views, and
replace them with a more libertarian perspective. I just wanted to let you know
that it is this premise that I disagree with you on. I don't think that leftists
are bad people, or that they are stupid. I just think that when a person says,
"I think that the government should do such and such thing," it is no different
from saying, "I think that people should do such and such thing, and that those
who disagree with me should be forced, on pain of imprisonment, to agree with
me." Because I believe quite firmly that people have the right to life, liberty,
and the pursuit of happiness, I think that the only proper use of social violence
is in response to someone using or attempting to use violence against another
person, and thus, we can only justify a 'night watchman' state. What do you
think?

Dear Auntie Pinko,
This will be a two part question: what is your position on the death penalty?
And what do you think about a national minimum living wage and a maximum wage,
with the rest going to infrastructure and social programs?
Thanks,
Eric,
Savannah, GA
