At least somebody from the Democratic Party is willing to say that he supports the pending vote-recount effort in Ohio.

That somebody: former presidential-nominee hopeful Dennis Kucinich.

"I strongly support the request for a recount in Ohio," the Ohio congressman said on Wednesday.

Green Party presidential candidate David Cobb announced on Monday that he and Libertarian Party presidential candidate Michael Badnarik plan to file joint requests for recounts in all 88 of Ohio's counties.

The requests will be filed once the county electoral boards in the Buckeye State have certified their results, the candidates said. A spokesman with the Ohio secretary of state office told The Augusta Free Press on Monday that the deadline for the electoral boards to certify their results is Dec. 1.

Kucinich on Wednesday joined Cobb and Badnarik in criticizing what the congressman termed the "highly partisan activities of state election officials" that he said "cast doubt on the integrity of the elections process."

Dear Congressman:

I am writing to congratulate and thank you for finally coming out in support of the Ohio recount. I am one of millions of Americans, and our numbers grow daily, who is alarmed and outraged by the current trends in US voting technology and procedures. We need action from you and from our other representatives in Congress and in the Senate:

1) A full investigation into the irregularities, mistabulations, and voter suppression which occured in the 2004 election;

2) A constitutional amendment guaranteeing the right to vote in fair elections overseen by non-partisan public officials;

3) Federal legislation barring election officials from electioneering activities on the part of any party or candidate and providing stiff penalties for voter suppression activities such as those which have been widely reported in Nevada and Oregon in the recent election. These activities should be felony crimes.

4) A fully auditable, transparent elections system such as the one pioneered by the late Athan Gibbs (Tru-Vote), which can insure that all the votes are counted all the time in every precinct in every election.

Thank you for taking the first step towards these goals by lending your voice to the groundswell of public support for a full recount of the Ohio vote.

Kucinich sent a congressional aide to attend the Saturday hearing on voting irregularities in Columbus. If Dennis hadn't been considering supporting the recount before, the sheer amount of damning evidence presented that day surely tipped him over the edge. He really is one of the strongest allies working on a national level that progressives could ask for. I spent a year campaigning for him in Washington State and would do so again in a heartbeat. Thank goodness for the one politician who I can always count on to act with integrity!

He inspires me, as well. Despite criticism, he voted against the war in Iraq and continued to speak out against it. Despite being practically ignored by the media, he continued to bring his message to the people. You nailed it; he has courage. He must have known that his uncompromising beliefs wouldn't win him national support or the nomination, but he never compromised. I would have voted for him in a heartbeat. I am realistic, and supported and voted for John Kerry, who also has many fine qualities, and I think would make an excellent president, but my heart belongs to Dennis.:-)

I supported Dennis in the primary as well. I passed out "Like Seabiscuit, Kucinich can Win" fliers at a theater last year. Too bad there were less than a dozen votes for him in Right Leaning Huntington County, IN. He truly stood for all I believe in. The Friends Committee on National Legislation (FCNL) published a list of votes for everyone in Congress. His votes have been consistently for peace, justice, and the rights of all citizens.
