BAGHDAD, Jan 25 (KUNA) -- Insurgents in Karkuk blew up an elementary school which was planned to be a polling center, police said Tuesday.

The al-Kadhemiya school, located 50 km west of here, sustained extensive damage as a result of the explosion, Brigadier Sarhat Qader told KUNA today.

Insurgents and unknown assailants have been lately targeting schools ostensibly planned to be converted to polling stations ahead of the Jan 30 elections date. (end) mhg.
