CA Governor Schwarzenegger loses some support

California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is on the wrong end of an opinion poll about his performance for the first time since taking office.

The poll shows fewer than half of California's likely voters approve of the way he's doing his job. The Public Policy Institute poll shows 47% of likely voters disapprove of his job performance.

Forty-five percent approve and 8% are undecided. In January, the poll found 60% approval for the governor and 33% disapproval.

The findings reflect a downward trend started in January when Schwarzenegger announced plans for a November special election and proposed a series of ballot measures.

The poll finds majority support for his plan to make it harder for public school teachers to gain tenure but opposition to his proposed restrictions on the state budget.

For example, Bush kept using the bogeyman of higher taxes during his stump speeches. The reality is that the lower taxes he's talking about are primarily for the very wealthiest, and regular workers are going to get hit by inflation, deficits, debt, the AMT, cuts in services, and the like.

For lots of Californians the novelty of electing The Terminator must have seemed like a lot of fun. But Arnie has not worn very well, and the constant coverage has revealed him to be a rather mean and arrogant man. He is also aging rather poorly, something people find disappointing in Hollywood stars.

and they have his approval rating now at 40% with a margin of error of 2%, thats a 20 point drop from a few months ago and Riordan just resigned.

He also dismissed a speeding ticket as being politically motivated (guess his Viper alarm didn't help him there). He told the officer, "It's not your job to stop me for speeding." He then said "I'm Congressman Darrell Issa and this is my area."

The guy is total scum and more of a black mark on the San Diego area than mayor Dick Murphy has been, who's at least had the capacity to know when he should step aside.

At least most Californians saw through his scam to try and be governor himself. We'd be in hell of a lot more worse shape if he, one of the wealthiest congressmen in Washington, was the governor now.

and got to blast him without yelling of course and when i got done with my question Wolf Blitzer loooks at him and says "Well what about the callers question, do you have an answer for her" and then Issa says "I don't have enough time right now to get into all of that"

I still don't completely understand her logic, but I do somewhat.

She couldn't stomach voting for Bustamante, who I have to agree ran a pretty poor campaign, especially with the debate and the weeks following it, and felt that he might put the Dems into a deeper ditch if he got put in than Davis did. Her feelings were that whoever was governor was going to be screwed with the budget mess, and that it might as well be Arnold to get blamed come 2006 instead of Democrats. She also wanted to make sure that one of the more extreme right wing Rethugs didn't get put in too.

If Feinstein had run, I'm sure she would have voted for her instead. I think given a good choice, Californians will vote out the Gropenator.

We have the teachers, nurses, and firemen to thank for this with their ad campaigns and protests. I find it interesting that his largest contingent of protesters are women. He can't help but offend women, especially women who work for a living.

I've always felt that the novelty of arnie would wear off quickly. People will realize he's another neo-con, and not the moderate he tried to sell himself as. The recall was the saddest thing that has ever happened to California, and had arnie faced a true election campaign, he probably wouldn't have made the ticket.

I hope when arnie's gone we can recover the state.
