Nancy Reagan May Prod Senate on Stem Cells

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Nancy Reagan is poised for a quiet entrance into the Senate's embryonic stem cell debate in much the same role she played during the fierce fight in the House, calling up wavering lawmakers to help win passage of legislation in the shadow of President Bush's veto threat.

''This is a very important issue to her and I know she remains committed to the cause and will do what she can at the right time,'' her spokeswoman, Joanne Drake, said in an interview Thursday.

2. National Geographic has stem cells as the cover story this month

It is a nice article that makes this complex science and moral issues simple to follow. And the pictures as usual are eye-catching. I didn't know the science was as advanced as it is. If you listen to the anti-science cult you would think there is nothing doing will stem cells right now. And it describes the problems with adult cells. Although, it is kind of creepy reading that the cells need mouse cells to live on to survive. A nice sci-Fi horror story in the making.

Nancy Reagan Likely To Work Behind Scenes For Stem Cell Bill

WASHINGTON -- Nancy Reagan is poised to take on President George W. Bush over stem cell research -- but quietly and behind the scenes.

The former first lady is anxious to put federal funding behind research that could someday cure the Alzheimer's disease suffered by her late husband.

The president has said it's wrong to destroy human embryos to possibly save lives. But Congress has been working on legislation to ease Bush's 2001 restrictions on federal funding to research new stem-cell lines.

This isn't the first time Reagan has worked in support of federal funding. She called wavering lawmakers when the House, despite a veto threat, passed a bill last month with the support of 50 Republicans.

Stem cell technology is is an idea who's time has come. It can't be stopped and it'll steamroll any pathetic attempt to 'stem' it's forward momentum. x(
