Second Decontamination Set For Boxes At Former AMI Building (anthrax)

BOCA RATON, Fla. -- A second decontamination is scheduled for thousands of boxes at the former headquarters of a supermarket tabloid that was the first target in a series of anthrax attacks, officials said.

The Environmental Protection Agency has approved a plan by MARCOR Remediation Inc. to disinfect the exteriors of more than 8,500 boxes with bleach over a seven-week period, said EPA project director Terry Stillman.

Bio-ONE originally planned to incinerate the boxes, containing 4.5 million tabloid photos and 305,000 pounds of press clippings and periodicals once owned by AMI, but began decontaminating the photos April 14.

I haven't heard anything about anthrax for a VERY LONG TIME! What happened to that guy they kept calling a person of interest? I know the gov't wrecked his life, but did they ever find anything????

SONORA - Two Sutton County ranches are under quarantine after the discovery of anthrax in several head of cattle, horses and deer, state authorities said Wednesday.

Pascual Hernandez, an agent with the Texas Cooperative Extension Service in Sonora, said several other ranches have reported livestock and deer deaths and are being investigated. The ranches where the anthrax has been found will be under quarantine until veterinarians can determine that no other animals are infected, a process that could take six months to complete.

Veterinarian Mike Keller said in a story in today's San Angelo Standard-Times that no infected animals are known to have entered the human food supply because the animals were found dead and no animals have left those ranches recently.

4. I think that's a acompletely different kind of anthrax!

Anthrax in livestock has been a problem for a long time. The anthrax we're talking about is the powdered kind from labs!

I just find it interesting that the whole story seems to have been forgotten. I never hear if there is still an ongoing investigation or if they've run out of clues and options and have shelved it.

The article did say that part of the boxes had already been treated and isolated, but the rest were still contaminated.

Isn't it strange that this whole episode has virtually disappeared from the discourse....
