JALALABAD, Afghanistan, Nov 17 (Reuters) - A U.S. air strike killed three militants, described as al Qaeda fighters, during an air and ground operation in eastern Afghanistan, an Afghan provincial governor said on Thursday.
Two suspected al Qaeda members were also arrested in the overnight operation in the Manogi district of Kunar province, near the border with Pakistan, Kunar's Governor Assadullah Wafa said.
"The operation involving U.S. and Afghan troops was launched with the support of air attacks last night," Wafa told Reuters.
"As a result of the operation, three al Qaeda persons have been killed in the air attack so far," he added.
The U.S. military could not be reached for immediate comment.
