Labour was secretly loaned almost £14m ahead of the last election - more than twice as much as previously thought, it has been suggested to the BBC.
BBC Newsnight's Political Editor Martha Kearney said she had been told the figure was £13,950,000.
Labour has pledged to name lenders in future amid claims they are being rewarded with peerages - a move swiftly followed by the Tories.
No 10 said it wanted cross-party talks on state funding of political parties.
