Kleeb hits campaign trail hard in close 3rd district race

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. - Amid the clatter of dishes and the smell of frying bacon, Democrat congressional candidate Scott Kleeb worked the tables Sunday morning at the Conoco Cafe, seeking some last-minute votes before President Bush hit town.
By all appearances, the Yale graduate-ranch hand - in his trademark blue jeans and cowboy boots - continued to round up supporters hours before the presidential visit to aid 3rd District Republican candidate Adrian Smith.
"I like that young kid," said Charles "Shorty" McDonald, a retired farmer and Republican, said after the 31-year-old Kleeb visited his table.
"He's young, and he's has the right ideas," McDonald said, citing Kleeb's support for farmers.
