"Personal responsibility" but no regrets for Rice over Iraq failures

WASHINGTON (AFP) - US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice brushed aside the growing criticism of her role in prosecuting the Iraq war, declaring herself "very proud" to have helped oust Saddam Hussein in an exclusive interview with AFP.

But the top US diplomat acknowledged feeling a "personal responsibility" for the bloodshed still taking the lives of hundreds of civilians each week nearly four years after the US-led invasion.

"I'm sure there are many, many things that we could have done differently, maybe should have done differently," Rice said when asked if she had any regrets over her part in the war.

But she added: "It's not just that I don't regret having participated in the liberation of Iraq and the overthrow of Saddam Hussein -- but I'm very proud that this country finally helped to liberate 25 million Iraqis" from the dictator.

According to a BBC article in October (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/6049174.stm), thousands of Iraqis flee the country each day to seek asylum in neighboring countries and Europe, while hundreds of thousands have been internally displaced...and hundreds of thousands more have been killed.

This is something to be proud about?

My follow up would be...

Well, was it worth it if we have a full blown conflict between the Shi'ite (Iran & Iraq) and the Sunnies (Saudi Arabia, Syria, Egypt)?

I can't help but think that's where this is going. Not to mention what happens to the Kurds and Israelis when this happens. Face it folks, we're stuck cleaning up these incompetent pompous asses for a long time.

7. "Responsibility" means jack shit to these people

If responsibility truly meant something to them, they'd be frantically trying to solve the problem (in this case, bloodshed in Iraq), then confess their fuck-ups and resign tearfully. That's accepting "responsibility".
