Hoyer to Dems: We’ll stay put until Iraq bill passes
Source: The Hill

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) told Democratic lawmakers on Friday that they would remain in session until they passed legislation to pay for the war in Iraq, according to an announcement that he sent to members.

Republicans have tried to capitalize politically on the absence of a supplemental war spending bill after President Bush vetoed the first version, and Democrats lack the votes to override the veto.

Earlier this week, nearly 200 Republicans urged House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) not to go into Memorial Day recess until an Iraq supplemental had reached the president’s desk that he would sign.

1. So, is this good or bad? That Republicans are urging it to take place makes it sound like it is NOT
a good thing.

16. This Is VERY Good!
With Congress in session, no recess appointments! Gonzales can't fold up his tent and disappear, Bush can't just chuck anybody in, it's perfect!

And quite frankly, if Congress NEVER funds the Iraq War again, it will be too soon.

3. The 29% Congress approval rating says a lot about what has happened to date. NT

12. Generally, the approval rating of a rep within the district
is much higher than Congress in general. If I remember correctly, it's generally about 20 points higher.

13. Maybe the public is mad a the Repuks
Most americans do not understand their government and how it works. They think that the dems should be able to pass stuff and the repubs will fall into line. They do not understand the veto. They are stupid.

5. This also means no out of session appointments
by Bushie. So if he wanted to appoint someone while Congress was out of session, too bad, not going to happen...Congress should try and stay in session for the next two years, even if it's just with one or two on the floor...

7. It's worth noting that the Dem leaders jump at this request from Republicans...
...while meanwhile ignoring our calls to hold this criminal administration accountable for its many, many crimes.

10. no funding for crimes against humanity, you worms....
Piss on the Iraq supplemental-- any bill that funds the illegal war against Iraq is itself complicity in international crimes. What part of "stop committing war crimes" does Congress not understand?
