Biden: Not interested in Vice-Presidency

DES MOINES, Iowa (CNN) — Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden told CNN Sunday he is confident a top three finish in Iowa will propel him to his party’s nomination, and said he would not consider being a vice presidential candidate if his White House bid is unsuccessful.

“I believe I’m going to do very well here,” the Delaware senator told Senior Political Correspondent Candy Crowley during an interview on the CNN Election Express. “If I end up one, two or three then I believe I’m the nominee because all of the sudden the national press will have to cover me.”...

Biden also told Crowley he would not accept the position of vice president should it be offered to him.

“If I don’t win the nomination the likely nominee is going to be Hillary and I love Bill Clinton, but can you imagine being vice president? I think I could be a much greater contributor to the security of the country as chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee,” he said. Clinton “is such a dominant and powerful and positive force that I think the question is if you’re going to stay in public life do you want to be a contributor...I’m not looking for a ceremonial post,” he said.

No one is going to want to be her VP if she gets it. Bill will be the effective VP.

7. Would it be a shock to discover

That POTUS and VEEP are rarely friendly? It's strictly a marriage of political convenience. The Veep job is to preside over the Senate and wait for the POTUS to die. That just doesn't encourage close communication. In fact, the secret service kinda prefers if the two aren't in the same place at the same time.

Also, if the nominee is considered too liberal or conservative on an issue, an attempt is made to balance him/her with a Veep choice that leans the other way...so they walk in as people who don't agree on most things.

The focus that Al Gore got was extraordinary. He was given real work to do and did it well. It set the precedent for Cheney's insane seizure of power. Because other Veeps mostly went to funerals.

You shouldn't have slept in American History, dull though they do make it.

11. I agree but Ialso agree with Biden that he will contribute

more as the independent voice of being the chairman of the SFRC than the VP. Under HRC, it is likely that most positions - VP and Secretary of State most noticeably will be less than they ususally are as Clinton may be the defacto person in those positions.

15. I didn't "sleep" through history. I'm sure there have been

VP's and Presidents who didn't get along. The fact is, a lot of the reason why Gore didn't get the Presidency is at the foot of Bill and Hill. I'm sorry, but that is how I feel. This has been documented in a lot of articles, like the Vanity Fair article.

I'd give anything if Gore would run but I am convinced this is why he isn't.

Gore got a bad deal as veep, and also when it came time to run for president himself. Hillary's senatorial campaign took a lot of resources that could have gone into Gore's campaign in 2000. It convinces me that the Clintons care more about themselves than their party or country. I think the same thing happened during the 2004 campaign. Too much backstabbing from the Clintonistas.
