| Gephardt Major announcement in 20 minutes |
|
WHO tv in Des Moines (NBC affiliate) says he will make a major announcement in 20 minutes (about 10:30) that will be big, some sort of press conference. Anyone know what this is about?

May be he is aiming for a top story above the fold, to start people's mornings. Particularly trying to counter Dean with Dr.Steinberg and Carter?
But yeah, not particularly likely.

WHOTV just signed off with no additional mention of an announcement from Gephardt. This turned into a fun thread, but now I feel like a fool. Dang media whores. Probably thought they had a scoop, but had nothing. I will stay up for the sports show just in case. They really did say he was holding a press conference with a big announcement at 10:30. I will let you know if anything more.
Again, sorry for reporting as accurate what WHO in DSM said.

| 34. DailyKos had a somewhat sad entry regarding Gephardt today... |
|
I didn't take it seriously at the time, but here's what it said:
Gephardt is fading, and he knows it. Perhaps unwittingly, he practically admitted as much when feebly asking the attendees in Pella for their vote.
"I'm not asking for me. It's not about me. I don't do this 18 hours a day, seven days a week for me," said Gephardt.
His voice is hushed, not energized. And then came the line that sent every scribe scribbling:
"I don't need to be president. I don't care about it."

I want him to be a man of steel willing to stand up as the leader of the oppostion to one of the greatest tyrants in US history. Sadly, Dick Gephardt has failed misreably at this. He may be a great guy, he may care for the working person, unfortunatly, he's a wimp.

|
a four car pile up in Iowa. The reason they front loaded the primaries was to have a nominee selected early, and prevent any challengers from taking hold. They wanted to assure themselves that the nominee would be one of their own, a member of the Beltway club.
The way it is now, everyone can claim a "little mo" coming out of Iowa, according to CNN's Bill Schneider. This is not what the DNC wants. They are also more afraid now because after the bruising battle for Iowa, the four leading candidates would have to immediately go into New Hampshire where Wes Clark awaits in ambush.
According to the CNN media whores, the DNC fears that the nomination may not be decided until late in the season.

Edited on Mon Jan-19-04 12:20 AM by Dover
Gep and Kerry playing tag team trying to guarantee the DLC/DNC grabs Iowa away from Dean. They're both in it to dilute Dean's following. One of them (Gep probably) will bow out and endorse the other (Kerry) sending all his people to the Kerry camp....or something along those lines.
Kerry has been the first choice inside the beltway since the get-go....and the media has suddenly begun to get behind it too.
We shall see, but if we putting down our bets I'll put my chips on Marlie.
On edit: I see IndianaGreen has also endorsed this idea....and explained it better.
