NEW YORK, July 23 (Reuters) - Protesters gathered on Wednesday outside Fox News Channel to denounce what they claim is its racist campaign coverage, including a pundit who called Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama a terrorist.

The crowd of some 150 people wielded a petition with more than 600,000 signatures objecting to news coverage by Fox, owned by Rupert Murdoch's News Corp (NWSa.N: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz), organizers said.

Another anchor called a televised fist bump between Obama and his wife a "terrorist fist jab," they said, and talk show host Bill O'Reilly discussed calling a "lynching party" to deal with Michelle Obama after criticizing her patriotism.

"Putting racism on national television and calling it news is never funny," said Andre Banks of ColorOfChange.

the mafia runs what's known as a 'protection racket' which means businesses pay for nothing in effect (nothing happens to them or their property) and they keep paying, cuz it's cheaper then getting burned out...it's sorta the same idea with foxnews and limbah oreilly hannazi and so on, ie the corpmedia. The boors fill the air with certain type of politics, which serves certain corporate interest by deflecting attention from important stuff. Even if the media biz could make more money promoting a liberal viewpoint, they don't because the real money is in military spending, in the stock market, oil war and drugs etc....these crooks spend vast sums to subsidise reactionary media (which also acts to force the rest to the far right) ..for example, rev moon has lost money on almost every publication he owns, but he's alot richer now then even 10 years ago, thanks to the misinformed public ...thus rush limbah doesn't even need sponsors, though the few they have does act as cover for the fact they are part of a protection racket (protected from the public being informed as to true state of affairs)

But if you listed to El Drugbo, half of his show is nothing but commercials. There is hardly any content. The guy will rant for 30sec before he goes to an ad then the news. Not only can I not stand listening to him talk about politics, but it's simply a waste of time having to listen to all the fluff in the middle.

This is always the strategic disadvantage Dems face: right-wing boycotts of media produce results because there's no corporate money to serve as a buffer to losses from pulled sponsors; progressive boycotts of the right's slanderous disinformation have limited effect because propaganda is a cost the rich and powerful are willing to subsidize.

Murdoch made his first acquisition in the United States in 1973, when he purchased the San Antonio Express-News. Soon afterwards, he founded Star, a supermarket tabloid, and in 1976, he purchased the New York Post. On September 4, 1985, Murdoch became a naturalized citizen, to satisfy the legal requirement that only US citizens could own American television stations. In 1987, in Australia, he bought The Herald and Weekly Times Ltd., the company that his father had once managed.
