MEXICO CITY — Peru will send a government mission to Japan next week to request that Tokyo extradite former Peruvian President Alberto Fujimori, the Peruvian Foreign Ministry said Friday.
The delegation, headed by Martha Chavarri, vice foreign minister in charge of Asian affairs, will discuss the issue with Japanese officials from the foreign and justice ministries. They will be in Japan from Wednesday through Friday.
"It's very important, because this will be the first opportunity to directly request the Japanese government to extradite Fujimori," Peru's Foreign Minister Manuel Rodriguez was quoted by Lima-based RPP radio as saying.
