Skinheads: State says hearing on plot wastes time

JACKSON, Tenn. (AP) - Federal prosecutors in West Tennessee say two men charged with threatening President-elect Barack Obama are wasting time with claims they were improperly indicted.

Twenty-year-old Daniel Cowart of Bells, Tenn., and 18-year-old Paul Schlesselman of Helena-West Helena, Ark., are charged with planning a killing spree that would target black people and end with an attack on Obama.

The two contend they were indicted by a federal grand jury with too few white people on it and the charges against them should be thrown out.

In a filing Monday with the federal court in Jackson, prosecutors said Cowart and Schlesselman have no legal grounds for such a claim and holding a hearing on their arguments would be a waste of time.

4. Daniel cowart was a member of th Supreme White Alliance (SWA)

A group that was formed by Steven Edwards. Edwards is the son of Ron Edwards, who served as the imperial wizard, or national leader of the Imperial Klans of America (IKA), who has since resigned as a result of a successful lawsuit by the Southern Poverty law Center (SPLC). The SPLC is moving to seize Edwards interest in the IKA's compound in Dawson Springs, Ky. and will likely put the IKA out of business.
