NEW TORK: Operatives in Pakistan's military intelligence are directly aiding Taliban's campaign in southern Afghanistan
, despite official claims
that ISI has severed all relations with the extremists, a media report said here on Thursday.

The Taliban's widening campaign in southern Afghanistan is made possible in part by direct support from operatives in Pakistan's military intelligence agency, the New York Times said, citing US government officials.

The support, it said, consists of money, military supplies and strategic planning guidance to Taliban commanders who are gearing up to confront the international force in Afghanistan that will soon include some 17,000 American reinforcements.

Support for Taliban and other militant groups is coordinated by operatives in the shadowy S Wing of Pakistan's spy service, the Directorate for Inter-Services Intelligence, the officials were quoted as saying.

8. Blundering Afghan suicide bomber blows up 6 militants

KABUL, March 26 (Reuters) - A would-be suicide bomber accidentally blew himself up on Thursday, killing six other militants as he was bidding them farewell to leave for his intended target, the Interior Ministry said.

"The terrorist was on his way to his destination and saying good-bye to his associates and then his suicide vest exploded," a statement from the ministry said.

Taliban-led attacks in Afghanistan have escalated in the past year with suicide and roadside bombings insurgents' weapons of choice.

The incident happened in Helmand province in southern Afghanistan where mainly British troops are struggling against a growing Taliban-led insurgency.

10. US Has Evidence of Pakistan Intelligence Agency Support for Taliban

Pakistan helped found the Taliban in 1994 and aided its capture of Afghanistan's capital, Kabul, in 1996. Members of the ISI were helping with money, supplies and strategic planning.
US officials have evidence that senior Pakistani officials ordered the attack on the Indian embassy in Kabul last year.

It's the Pakistani version of the Cheney parallel government pushing the neocon agenda.

11. Iran and Nato end 30-year impasse ( ISI should take notice Iran has an interest)

Iran spends about $600 million a year fighting the border drug trade comming from both Pakistan and Afghanistan and this issue will be on the table.

An Iranian diplomat has held informal talks with Nato officials for for the first time in 30 years. Senior Nato negotiator Martin Erdmann said he had met Iran's ambassador to the European Union, Ali-Asghar Khaji, more than two weeks ago.

"This is another good step in engaging Iran in the international community," said Mr Erdmann. "I am sure there will be follow-up meetings."

Iran has also confirmed it will attend a US-backed conference on Afghanistan.

While Iran and Nato states are at odds over Tehran's nuclear plans, they share an interest in a stable Afghanistan.

ISI has an economic interest in the drug trade and Iran may be a willing participant to reduce thier own cost of fighting their war on drugs.
