A new transcription of Rep. Michele Bachmann’s April 9 interview on San Francisco AM station KSFO yields another error:

On the station’s morning show, she recounted the 2006 controversy of the so-called “flying imams,” six Muslim clerics who were removed from a US Airways flight after passengers grew uncomfortable with their behavior. “The imams, the imams were actually attending, ah, Congressman Keith Ellison’s victory celebration, when he won as a member of Congress,” Bachmann said.

Actually, they were in Minneapolis attending the fourth annual conference of the North American Imams Federation, as the Minnesota Independent, the New York Times and others reported at the time.

I was Keith's scheduler/event planner and I spearheaded this shindig in Minneapolis upon Keith's victory in 2006. I can tell you without a doubt that the "flying Imams" were not in attendance. Even if they were, well, so what? I remember the dudes were in town for a conference. Still, this didn't even happen at the same time! This crazy bitch will say ANYTHING. We are flabbergasted in MN about how this certifiable lunatic slimed her way back into office!

odder parts of the state and it was also a 3 way race. She only won by 2%.

El Tinklenberg was not only endorsed by the DFL, but also by the Independence Party but state election law only allowed him to put one party's endorsement on the ballot. Before the primary in September some unknown filed as the Independence party's candidate and ran unopposed so he moved on to the general election. He received 10% of the vote in the general, which is probably explained by the fact that his name is Bob Anderson. If you're an unknown who wants to make a respectable showing in a Minnesota election - or just wants to mess things up - change your name to something with -son on the end of it. (No lie, this is not the first time an election has gone awry because of this and both the DFL and the Repukes have been burned by it.)

We need to change election laws so a candidate endorsed by both parties could use it on the ballot and maybe find some way to give the parties a little more control over who files using their names.
