ST. LOUIS A rally by about 70 members of the National Socialist Movement under
the Gateway Arch this afternoon ended about 3 p.m. with only one incident.

St. Louis police arrested a man who was breaking through a barrier where the
neo-Nazis were preparing for the start of the rally. The man, shouting
profanities at the few National Socialist Movement members, was tackled by
police, handcuffed and taken from the scene.

The incident occurred just before 1:30 p.m. The rally got under way about 2
p.m., with neo-Nazis marching into the sequestered area. They shouted "USA!
USA!," "Immigrants Go Home!" and "Seig Heil."

Their stiff-armed Nazi salutes were greeted by obscenities and extended
middle-fingers from some of the 150 counter-demonstrators and observers who
gathered outside barricades that the National Park Service had erected. About
40 Park Service rangers and St. Louis police officers were on hand this
afternoon

In a statement posted on the Internet, Steven Boswell, the NSM leader in
Missouri, said the purpose of the rally is to send a message from St. Louis to
Washington.

"When the average American has absolutely no voice; it is high time we stand
up. It is high time we defend ourselves. It is high time we take our country
back," the statement said.

Area clergy and assorted other groups protesting the NSM's presence in St.
Louis are holding a counter-rally in Forest Park. The protest gets under way at
2:30 p.m. at the bottom of Art Hill.

President Obama should use the powers Bush/Cheney gave him just one last time and swoop down and put them all in camps. Bush/Cheney included. I just wonder if they ever figured out that in order for these guys to even be here, someone in their family had to be an immigrant at one time? Or is that too deep for them? I am an ardent supporter of Free Speech, and even nazi's have the Right to spew their inane tripe...(I kind of welcome it, I like my enemies right out there, instead of in the basement plotting...;) ).

14. You have to wonder about Germany...

You have to wonder what Germany would be like if it also allowed "free speech" but the point is that Germany doesn't allow it and it is important to note that Germany banned it because of what happened when they allowed it.

The Nazi Conscience by Claudia Koonz. It is a very good read, and deals with the psychological/sociological factors of germany at the time.

Interestingly, there were many who joined the NSDAP because it was far easier to get a job. It was easier to avoid persecution as well.

it is fascinating to see how a remarkably civilized nation could slip into such depravity, and it is a warning of just how low we, as humans, can go.

If you get the chance, see if your library has the book, most likely, you won't be disappointed, it was an eye-opener for me.
