19 Arrested In Canary-Fighting Investigation
100 Birds Seized In Shelton, Police Say

SHELTON, Conn. -- Police said 150 birds were seized in a canary-fighting investigation in Shelton on Sunday.

Police said canaries and saffron finches were seized and 19 people were arrested at a Ripton Road address.

“There was 100 canaries fighting, and they were betting on them 'til they were dead. It’s absolutely shocking,” said neighbor Marion Sega.

Police said they served a search warrant at the home after receiving a tip that an illegal bird fight involving 150 canaries and finches was scheduled to take place on Sunday.

Canaries are popular beginner pet birds and saffron finches, another small species of bird, can be spiteful and intimidating.

Police said 150 canaries and finches, their cages and $8,000 in cash was seized from the Ripton Road home.

This makes me absolute sick to my stomach. I remember how lovingly my Caruso tended to his wife, Mrs. Caruso. How awful it was for him when she died unexpectedly from egg-yolk peritonitis. How when I came home from work, he hopped to the nearest corner of their cage and called to me in a way I'd never heard before. I knew immediately something was wrong.

He was so sad at her loss. I had him until he was 11. Lovely, lovely sweet bird with a beautiful song that grew longer and more intricate every year. He used to fly into the kitchen and hop around the table, helping me make the other bird's breakfast, sampling the food in each dish...

People are so disgusting I sometimes don't want to share the same planet or breathe the same air...
