Security and traffic camera shots show the moment when the quake hit Chile in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The 8.8 magnitude quake struck at 0634 GMT about 115km (70 miles) north-east of the city of Concepcion and 325km south-west of the capital, Santiago.

then a period of really violent shaking in all videos.

People jolted awake must have been terrified.

3. Earthquakes are so creepy!

I live in NC so we don't expect quakes (we do have hurricanes but you can see those days in advance, grab your stuff and get out of the way) They are just surreal to me.

I think Univision had the coverage first. I was running and was very sweaty, but when I saw that video, I got chills all over.

Those are the worst.

The security camera makes it look like the whole country was being shaken in a cocktail shaker.
