Ken McKay RESIGNS: RNC Chief Of Staff Out In Wake Of 'Bondage-Gate'

Republican National Committee Chief Of Staff Ken McKay has resigned in the wake of a spending scandal that has rocked the RNC, several news outlets reported on Monday.

RNC spokesman Doug Heye told Politico that the staff shift was "about ensuring that we have the tight financial controls in place and to ensure that every nickel we spend is done with the goal of winning in November."

Deputy Chief of Staff Mike Leavitt is expected to replace McKay.

McKay had been drafted into damage control at the RNC in the wake of reports that the committee spent thousands of dollars at a bondage-themed nightclub in Los Angeles. Though the RNC declined to immediately say if McKay was forced out he is another casualty of the episode, which led to a spate of embarrassing news stories, sewed doubt among top RNC donors and fundraisers and put committee chairman Michael Steele on defense.

I mean so WTF if they spent $2000 at a sleazy strip club. It isn't the first time I'm sure and the repigs probably aren't the only ones who have been guilty of it. On the scandal scale of 1 to 10 I'd give it a 1.5. Sen. Ensign on the other hand is at least a 7.

That said, I can't help but feel a big dose of shadenfreude-ey satisfaction that the liberal media are getting outraged and tsk tsking at something the family values party has done.

10. It is absolutely a "family values party" thing...

...I posted an article or video clip, don't remember which, a couple of days ago which approached the topic from that angle.

It was basically a spokesperson from a sexual freedom organization saying that there's nothing wrong with sex and nothing wrong with strip clubs, so maybe it's time for Republicans to stop pretending that they are somehow morally opposed to both.

It's like Sarah Palin...no one attacked her on her jaw-dropping lack of political knowledge and insight until she stepped on the national stage and attempted to brand herself as "vice presidential." I don't think anyone here really cares about what she knows or doesn't know. I think they care about her getting away with pretending to be someone she's not, and advancing politically based on that pretense.

is that 'moderate' Rethugs will either resign or be ushered out, and the teabaggers will gladly take over. We've seen how the DLC took over the Democratic Party, when a party is on the outs, but senses victory for a faction, there is often jostling for leadership positions.

I know, some of you are choking on my description of Steele as a moderate. But you haven't yet seen the bagger who's going to replace him.

The Republican National Committee suffered another setback on Monday when one of its most successful and well-connected fundraisers announced he was stepping down from a board of directors position.

Former Ambassador Sam Fox, a co-chairman of the RNC's top-level fundraising board, the Republican Regents, recently decided to leave the position, Republican sources told Politico's Ben Smith.

Republican National Committee Chief of Staff Ken McKay resigned Monday, becoming the highest-ranking official to depart the committee after revelations that the national party spent nearly $2,000 at California sex club.

McKay’s departure in turn prompted one of RNC Chairman Michael Steele’s closest advisers to cut ties to the party – an indication that a full-scale bloodletting is under way at the troubled committee.

Doug Heye, communications director for the RNC, declined to say if McKay was forced out but indicated the move was directly related to the money spent at the now-infamous Voyeur Club and broader concerns about the party’s fundraising and the performance of Steele.

"This is about ensuring that we have the tightest financial controls in place and to ensure that every nickel we spend is done with the goal of winning in November,” said Heye.
