Costa Mesa declares itself a 'rule of law' community

Costa Mesa has sought for several years to reduce the number of illegal immigrants within its borders by regulating day laborers, asking police to check the immigration status of people they stop and limiting the number of soccer fields in parks.

The Costa Mesa City Council has voted unanimously to declare itself a "rule of law" community, further widening the divide over illegal immigration in the central Orange County city. This week's resolution follows an April news conference in which Mayor Allan Mansoor called for stricter regulations to catch illegal immigrants living, working and driving in the city.

No irony in the fact that they are called 'Costa Mesa'...which literally means "coastal table" in Spanish. (There must be no more room at the table)

So, I guess we need to boycott these idiots too if 'limiting the number of soccer fields in parks' is their way of saying 'I want my country back'. Let's see, so we need to be sure and avoid the big ones: Southcoast Plaza, the Orange County Fair (July) & the Pacific Amphitheater... for starters.

The resolution passed despite pleas from community members. No one in the audience spoke in favor of it.

"Immigrants are part of America," Silvia Hernandez told the council. "We work, pay taxes, go to church and participate in our communities. We need a solution that brings people out of the shadows."

"Americans across the political spectrum agree that our immigration system needs fixing," said Keturah Kennedy. "It is unrealistic to deport the 12 million undocumented residents of our country. Workable solutions must include a realistic pathway to citizenship for those who are currently working, paying taxes and learning English. We need all the residents of Costa Mesa to have full economic and civic participation to help our city thrive."

Mansoor dismissed residents' comments as reckless, adding that they do not reflect "what's being introduced tonight." He said the resolution was aimed at setting the tone for a strong anti-illegal immigration policy both now and in the future.

5. Irony is if they are paying payroll taxes they must be using forged documents.

Really you can't be an illegal immigrant without breaking a whole list of laws. Driving without a license, using false social security numbers, not paying taxes. It is impossible to be an illegal immigrant who breaks no laws.

6. What's ironic about breaking laws? You know what's actually ironic, though?

Bet their employers are breaking a lot of laws, too. Perhaps even supply the allegedly forged documents. Yet Costa Mesa, a self-proclaimed "rule of lawcommunity" doesn't seem the least bit concerned about their lawlessness.

Neither do most people who seem obsessed with undocumented immigrants (sometimes incorrectly labeled "illegal immigrants).

Wonder why the vast discrepancy.

You can't stop illegal immigration if you don't hit it hard from all sides. It would be easy enough to do if we were serious about it. In this area our federal enforcement is a joke.

The employers need to be thrown in jail also, but it seems that Costa Mesa will only follow the rule of law as long as no one's profits are affected.

Years ago, a bunch of us soccer parents approached the local school board about starting a soccer program at the local high school. We volunteered to fund all costs of uniforms, equipment, travel. A parent who was also a teacher offered to be coach. School board refused to consider it because, as one board member told us, "We don't want no Messican sports in the school."
