Miller's lead slims; Murkowski awaits absentees

Joe Miller's lead over U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski slightly narrowed to 1,668 votes with all the election precincts counted Wednesday. A stunned Murkowski said she is not giving up hope until absentee ballots are counted starting next week.



"It ain't over yet, folks," Murkowski said at her campaign headquarters in Anchorage. "There are thousands of absentees that are yet to come in."

Miller was leading with 47,027 votes to 45,359 for Murkowski after the final precinct results came in late Wednesday afternoon. More than 16,000 absentees were requested from the Division of Elections and about 7,600 of them have come back so far.

Murkowski wouldn't discuss whether she'd pursue a third-party candidacy or independent write-in candidacy to keep the seat if she loses the Republican primary. "It is way, way, way too premature to even be talking about that," she said.

Unless the libertarians drop thei candidate to let her use the line (unlikely) - a 3rd party run at this point means a write-in campaign.

Lisa would win if she ran as a third party.

Alaska's Republican primary is closed and she would get enough cross-over votes from Independents and conservative Democrats (who outnumber left-of-center Democrats in the state) in the general election. They know her seniority brings benefits to the state and Miller would be an outcast as a tea bagger.

4. I hope that whoever loses puts Alaska through all the crap that

Coleman put Minnesota through with the Franken election. I would love to have our candidate out on the hustings while those two are legally tied up.

Voting for Miller was a way for Alaskan Republicans to say that they're tired of all the crap they've taken over Sarah Palin. They've gone from being obscure to being considered rubes by what they perceive to be elites on both coasts.

9. Come on......Coleman lead before the recount

I am pleased that he is now gone....hopefully for good, but the recount changed the election result that was in favor of Coleman. That is why we have recounts....to get the CORRECT result.
