A senior official in the National Alliance said that Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki is about to announce the appointment of Ahmad Chalabi to the important position of minister of interior.

(Chalabi, who was a key figure in misleading the U.S. about Saddam's weapons of mass destruction, is now considered Iran's key ally in Iraq. If the appointment takes place, Iran stands to be able to play a critical role the internal security apparatus of Iraq.)
