Meanwhile Libya’s deputy foreign minister told E.U. ambassadors in Tripoli al-Qaeda has set up an Islamic emirate in Derna, in eastern Libya, headed by a former U.S. prisoner at Guantanamo Bay,

However, residents in the city have told reporters there is no substance to these rumors, which they claim the Libyan government is sowing to "scare Europe."

"Al-Qaeda has established an emirate in Derna led by Abdelkarim al-Hasadi, a former Guantanamo detainee," Khaled Khaim said.

"They have an FM radio station and have begun to impose the burqa" (head-to-toe covering for women) and have "executed people who refuse to cooperate with them."

That is why the death of Neda really hit me hard! I honestly took that hard it bothered me bad for days! Not to minimize all the other people who give their lives for what they belive in but the manner in which she died was burnt into my memory forever!

I cannot pass judgment on that. But I would not call armed groups of people determined to seize state power "protesters"; rather, they are insurgents.

Second, I find it interesting that the woman pictured is portraying Gaddafi as Jewish.

No one should be surprised that all of the most extreme fundamentalist and anti-Semitic forces are intimately bound up with this rebellion in Libya. That is not to say that they will lead it, but it is certainly possible.
